How to use the Eisenhower Matrix in ToDowl

The Eisenhower Matrix sorts every task by two questions: is it urgent, and is it important. ToDowl does not draw a four-box grid on screen - there is no separate matrix view to open. What it already has is a priority flag and a due date on every task, and those two fields answer the exact same two questions the matrix asks, without needing a chart to hold them.

What the matrix is actually asking

Important means the task moves something that matters if it gets done. Urgent means it has a deadline pressing on it. The matrix's real point is not the box itself - it is noticing that "urgent" and "important" are two different questions, and that a task can score high on one and low on the other.

Important maps to priority

Setting a task's priority to high is the "important" half of the sort. A task that moves the actual goal forward gets marked high priority regardless of when it is due; a task that only feels urgent because someone else is waiting on it does not automatically earn that flag.

Professionals

Urgent maps to the due date

A task due today or this week is the "urgent" half, and it shows that way in list and kanban view without any extra setup - the date itself is the urgency signal. Pairing high priority with a near due date is quadrant one: do it now. High priority with no near date is quadrant two: give it a real slot with time blocking before it becomes urgent by accident.

The quadrant most people skip

Low priority with a near due date is the matrix's warning quadrant: something that feels pressing but was never actually important, usually because it is someone else's request landing on your list. ToDowl will not stop that task from showing up next to real ones - the priority flag is what separates it out, on purpose, so it reads as "urgent, not important" instead of blending into everything else marked high.

Try it yourself

Setting this up in ToDowl takes a couple of minutes - start with one project and add only what is described above.
